Teaching

For those who have prior teaching experience in China we provide a quick and efficient process, matching teaching positions to an applicant’s requirements.

For those going to China for the first time we provide guidance, information and resources throughout the recruitment process, and are always contactable via skype, email, ‘we chat’ or telephone to answer queries.

University lecturers

For postgraduate degree holders, PhD candidates, academics and professors we provide a gateway to teaching opportunities in some of China’s top universities, including both short term visiting lecturer (2-6 weeks) and full time academic positions.

Immersion and study programme

For those who would like to fully immerse themselves in Chinese culture, this programme offers the chance to live with a Chinese family, combined with a course of Mandarin study at a local university.

Meet the team

Tom Saunders

Recruitment Director

Tom joined Opportunity China as Recruitment Director in 2011. He has a degree in Management with Entrepreneurship from the University of Southampton.

Previously, Tom worked as Programme Director for SIFE UK,  as an Enterprise Consultant and Training Provider for Higher Education institutions from the UK and China.  He has spent a lot of time in China and is in his element working across cultures in the field of education.

Stephanie Day

Operations Manager

Steph has a first class degree from the University of Exeter, and subsequently worked for a British university supporting international partnerships, marketing and student recruitment.

She oversees Opportunity China’s operational activities, and her small team maintain relations with partner schools, agents, clients and Opportunity China Ambassadors.

Steph is always available and happy to speak with candidates, with no question too small!

Jake Collings

Marketing Manager

Jake is an experienced primary and secondary education professional, with experience of teaching 11-16 year olds and providing business services to companies involved in the industry. He has also worked in the private education sector and forged working relationships with schools, teachers and students, using a range of marketing devices.

Jake drives Opportunity China’s marketing and business development activities, helping to spread the word about our great programmes and services!

Penny Yu

China Team Director

Penny has expertise in managing foreign teachers, visa matters and issues relating to teacher employment contracts. Currently located in Hangzhou, she works closely with our partner schools, and is involved with our new partner school due diligence process.

Penny offers an excellent service to both our applicants and partner schools, and is always happy to help and support teachers on their arrival in China!

Jayne Whistance

Academic Manager

Jayne recently achieved a Merit in her MA  in  Applied  Linguistics  and  TESOL degree.  In addition, she holds a BA  (Hons)  Linguistics  degree, a  Certificate  in  Teaching  English  to  Speakers  of  Other Languages  (TESOL) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Jayne has nearly 10 years’ teaching  experience  in  the  U.K.,  Russia  and  South  Korea and is confident dealing with adult learners from diverse backgrounds.  Further, she has a proven track record in supervising and mentoring staff.  Jayne is Opportunity China’s Academic Manager, responsible for developing, maintaining and managing the academic programme, recruiting and managing academic staff and overseeing student welfare.

Emily Reed

Digital Marketing Manager

Emily has several years of experience in a range of digital marketing roles. She then decided to go back to University to complete a degree in Fashion Management and Marketing.  Since joining Opportunity China not only have our social media accounts improved, but the office is also slightly more fashionable.

Ang Li

Business Development Management

Ang Li originates from Nanchang, China. After finishing his undergraduate degree in China, he embarked on a Master’s degree at the University of Bath in the UK.

Upon completing his studies, Ang enjoyed a role for a large accountancy firm in the City of London. Ang holds the role of Business Development Manager and is dedicated to forging new partnerships with clients across China.

Ella Riu

East China Manager

Ella completed her Master’s in Education at the University in Southampton in the UK, where she also taught Mandarin for the university’s Confucius Institute. She lived in the UK for 5 years, returning to China in 2014.

Ella is now based in Hangzhou, maintaining partnerships with schools across the South of China, offering translation services and supporting teachers to settle in to their teaching positions.

Dan Humphrey

Teaching Manager

After completing his History degree at the University of Southampton, Daniel taught in Guangzhou for 5 years and has very recently returned to the UK. He’s worked in both public schools and private language centres, across a variety of student age groups, and is therefore a great source of advice on day-to day-living, classroom management, lesson planning and teaching resources.

Emma Zhang

Finance Officer

Emma gained her Law degree from Tonglin University in 2009, and went on to work as an accountant in Foshan city, Guangdong province. Since moving to the UK earlier this year, Emma has been a legend in organising our accounts and assisting with translation – and always has nuggets of invaluable information about the intricacies of Chinese culture to share with us in the office!

Will Perrins

Partnerships and Recruitment Manager

Will graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2012 with a degree in Politics and International Relations. He subsequently worked for several years as an English Teacher, and later Head Teacher, in China. Will returned to the UK in 2015, working in recruiting students to internship positions in China before joining Opportunity China in 2016.

Will is responsible to building and maintaining relationships with Higher Education and other institutions worldwide to help Opportunity China reach as many enthusiastic teachers and programme participants as possible.

Will is passionate about Chinese history, culture and language and is always looking to encourage more young people to take up to the opportunity to experience the country first-hand!
