The summer time brings out an adventurer in all of us, with Opportunity China Teachers and Immersion and Study Participants no exception! We’ve compiled a list of 4 exciting things you could be doing in China this summer in each of our Teach China and Immersion and Study locations!

1. Step back in time to the Tang Dynasty in Fuzhou!

In Fuzhou’s downtown area lies an ancient time capsule known as Three Lanes and Seven Alleys

The streets feature a wide array of ancient Chinese buildings and makes up China’s largest and best-preserved traditional heritage site. The layout of the street dates back to the 7th Century and the Tang dynasty, making it an unforgettable destination to lose yourself in China’s ancient and romantic history this summer.

2. Escape to a bubble of tranquillity in Beijing

Beijing is rightly famous for its hustle and bustle nature, lightning fast pace of life and as a city that truly never seems to sleep!

Therefore it comes as a surprise to many that Beijing is also home to the world’s best preserved Imperial Garden! Beijing’s Summer Palace offers a tremendous amount to see and do. With its beautiful and diverse array of lakes, pagodas and immaculately maintained gardens, it’s easy to see why visitors flock to it every summer.

From taking a boat ride to the onsite temples to regular performances at the Palace’s miraculously restored traditional theatre, the gardens of the Summer Palace are a great place to forget the stress of the outside world and relax in an enclosed chunk of natural paradise.

3. Chill out with the Pandas in Chengdu

Chengdu is famous as the go-to destination for lovers of black and white furry creatures, worldwide! The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, or Chengdu Panda Base is a fantastic place to spend your summer in the company of the world’s favourite endangered species.

Chengdu Panda Base offers an open and comfortable space for the Pandas to thrive and frolic, and includes several walkways allowing guests to get up-close and personal with them. In addition to this there are many fantastic exhibitions and information points, letting visitors know all about China’s famous and adorable residents.

Chengdu is also an Opportunity China hub, with both Teach China Graduate Participants and Immersion and Study Participants living and working in Sichuan’s Panda capital!

4. Sit in the shade of a 77m Buddha in Foshan  

Foshan in the South of China is a great place for fans of hot and sunny summer weather! Xiqiao Mountain National Forest Park is home to a 40 million year old dormant volcano and perched on the top is a giant ‘Buddha like’ statue looking out over the many unusual rock formations, fresh water springs, waterfalls and natural caves that make up the park.

Summer is the best time to enjoy the South of China, but if you’re planning on making a hike up the volcano to bask in the glory of one of China’s top locations for natural beauty, then make sure you take plenty of water as summer temperatures commonly exceed 30 degrees!
