8 Must Sees In Beijing

The great thing about teaching in China is the chance to explore wondrous cities during your days off and vacations, and Beijing is no exception. Now, we don’t want to seem bias, but we truly believe Beijing is a magnificent city, full of natural beauty and charm waiting to be explored! Beijing is also home to some extraordinary architecture that really should be on your bucket list if it’s not already!

Its difficult to narrow the long list down, but we have put together 8 of our must sees in Beijing, of course starting with the Forbidden City!

1. Forbidden city – The Forbidden City is located in the centre of Beijing. It is the largest ancient palatial structure in the world, hosting one of the most important five palaces in the world.

2. Tiananmen Square – Tiananmen Square is one of the largest public squares in the world. It is located in the centre of Beijing, very close to the Forbidden City.

3. Temple of Heaven – The Temple of Heaven is situated in Southern Beijing and is considered Beijing’s most holy imperial temple. It’s architecture and landscape design is definitely one not to miss.

4. Summer Palace – The Summer Palace boasts an array of stunning gardens, lakes and palaces located Northwest of Beijing city. It is said to be the most well-preserved regal garden in the world!

5. The Great Wall of China – There are several sections of The Great Wall of China around Beijing, one of the most famous sections to visit however is Mutianyu. 6. Yonghe Temple – Yonghe Temple, also known as Lama Temple, is a stunning piece of architecture dating back to the 1600’s and attracts many tourists as well as locals.

7. Jingshan Park – Jingshan Park is a vast public park located North of the Forbidden City, covering over 20 hectares. It is homes to beautiful landscapes including an artificial hill that boasts views of The Forbidden City.

8. Houhai – Houhai is the largest of three lakes situated in central Beijing and is more recently known as a hub for nightlife, featuring many bars, restaurants and cafes. Very atmospheric at night with lights lighting up the lake
