The application process

For both the Flexi and Summer Immersion and Study Program, it is recommended that an online application is submitted at least 3 months before you wish to travel, although it can be possible for the process to be completed in as little as 6 weeks.

If you have any questions about the application process, please email: info@opportunity-china.com

Step 1: Submit an online application. If we wish to progress your application, an initial telephone/ skype interview will be scheduled with an Opportunity China coordinator. This conversation will be our chance to learn more about you, assess your suitability, and of course to answer your questions.

Step 2: If successful, you will be informed via email and requested that you complete the Host Family Matching Form, and Self Introduction.

Step 3: A skype conversation will be scheduled with our Chengdu Coordinators. Doris Tian and her Team will be your point of contact throughout your time in China, therefore this conversation will be a chance for you to say hello and get to know each other better.

Step 4: Once potentially suitable host families which meet your requirements have been contacted, you will be sent a Host Family Profile document, noting key information about the family, information about their home, and a brief personal introduction. Based on this, you may choose to speak to this family via skype in order to learn more.

Step 5: You will sign a contract, a host family agreement, and prepare the paperwork required to register for your university registration or language school registration. Once registration is complete, the institution will send you an electronic invitation letter and student visa paperwork and post a hard copy to your home address.

Step 6: With this paperwork you can submit your visa application at your closest Visa for China centre, either in person or by post. You Coordinator will help you complete the form and answer any questions.

Step 7: Once your visa is in your passport, you can purchase your flight to China. If you would like to book your flight before having your visa, it is very important that you contact your Coordinator before doing so in order to discuss this.

Step 8: On arrival in China you will be met at the airport, attend your orientation and language course registration – and now the excitement, exploration and study can begin!

Applying with a friend

This is welcomed, and we can facilitate friends living with host families located close by. If you are applying with a friend, please note this on your application or make your Coordinator aware during your telephone or skype interview.

Application Deadlines

Note that the application deadline for the Summer option is 1st May 2017. Due to high demand, we recommend that your online application is submitted as early as possible.

For the Flexi Program, please apply 3 months before you wish to travel to China. Again, where possible it is always strongly recommended that applications are submitted well in advance.
