Hunan is the 7th most populous Province in China and is widely recognized as one of China’s most beautiful destinations, with breath-taking mountainous terrain, serene rivers and culturally fascinating temples and shrines linking the provinces modern urban centres.

As a teacher working for a public school in Hunan, you’ll be teaching for no more than 18 hours per week Monday to Friday, and can expect the following salary package:

  • RMB6000- 9000 monthly salary

Changsha

Changsha is the capital of Hunan. It is famous for its history and culture, with a history of over 3000 years. Changsha is well connected by roads, river, rail and air transportation modes, which makes it easier to travel, not only within the city, but also to surrounding areas.

Changsha is famous for its unique delicacies (if you are a fan of spicy food, you won’t be disappointed!). Changsha has a number of unique places of interest to visit:

Yuelu Mountain Scenic Zone: Is a serene and inspiring national park in the shadow of the imposing Yuelu Mountain. The site is home to various shrines, lakes and buildings of historical significance.
Window of the World– A quirky capsule of China’s modern international focus! This theme park features reproductions of some of the most famous tourist attractions in the world, such as Mount Rushmore (USA), Sydney Opera House (Australia), Neuschwanstein Castle (Germany), and many more.

Shaoyang

Shaoyang is Hunan’s largest city, located in the South West of province it boasts a population of over 7 million. Shaoyang is one of the busiest most dynamic cities in the province, acting as the regions commercial, transport and cultural hub. With a proportionally large number of ethnic minorities living in Shaoyang, the city is culturally diverse and known for its distinct culture, music and art. The most notable example is Shaoyang’s Flower Drum Opera.

Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of China’s Hunan Province and is home to one of China’s most recognisable landscapes, the Zhangjiajie national forest park National forest park. Featuring one the world’s most unique and striking mountain landscapes. The seemingly “floating mountains” of Zhangjiajie, were the inspiration for much of scenery in the film, Avatar.

Zhangjiajie is also home to the world’s longest glass bridge, a world record glass elevator offering spectacular views minus the steep hike along with the world’s longest cable car ride.

Hunan’s climate is subtropical, meaning that it is humid, with short, cool winters, and very hot and humid summers. In January, the average temperatures range from 3 to 8 degrees, while in July, temperatures reach 30 degrees.
