4 days until the year of the Monkey!

Chinese New Year will be on 8 February 2016 and this year it’s the Year of the Monkey, year 4714 on the Chinese Calendar. It’s the main festival and biggest celebration of the year, and a time for families to enjoy eating and celebrating with their loved ones.

The lead up period, before people travel back to their home towns, is a fantastic time to be in China and to witness this colourful festival first-hand. All teachers in China have a break from work over this period, many using it to travel across China and Asia more widely – although be sure to book trains and flights months in advance as tickets sell out almost immediately.

There are many traditions associated with this festival, which we’ll explore over the coming days.
